5th Grade visited the Learning Commons for a Standards Based Lesson on creating Multimedia Presentations! I'd say they were engaged!

CMS Spelling Bee Fun!!!

Students created their own abstract designs that came together as a beautiful and unique paper quilt! They also began work on their own fabric collages inspired by the Gee's Bend Quiltmakers of Alabama.

Attention Commerce Community! CMS Adaptive Curriculum will be hosting their First Annual Pancake Breakfast, April 13th 2024. Mrs. Carreno's class introduced sphero robots and how to code them to Mrs. Cruz and Mr. Cotrell's class. Learning is so fun at Commerce Middle School!

Parents of 6th and 8th grade students: Scoliosis screenings are next week, March 5th-7th. If you do NOT want your student screened, please remember the opt out form is due by this Friday, March 1st.

Congratulations to the 7th grade Students of the Month for February! ELA: Takari is always attentive, gives his best effort, and is a positive influence on his classmates. Math: Manning works hard and always has a positive attitude. SS: Matthew is a hardworking young man. He has a great attitude and is always ready to learn. SC: Jason can always be counted on to go above and beyond to achieve in science class. He is a hard worker, supportive teammate, and inquisitive scientist. ELA Applications: Peyton leads by example in her class by coming in prepared and always working hard. She is happy about life each day. (Not pictured) Math Applications: Mary consistently goes above and beyond in her work. She is dependable, asks great questions and does her very best without complaint. Connections: Caroline has great energy and is consistently in the top of the class during workouts and games. She gives great effort and she brings others along with her!

Congratulations to the 5th grade Students of the Month for February! ELA: Aubriella has made great progress this year! She comes to class ready to learn every day. ELA: Angel is always respectful and gets along with his peers. He has shown tremendous growth in ELA. Math: Jake is a very resilient young man who is kind to his peers, works well in groups, and has grown tremendously in his work ethic. (Not pictured) Math: Hayes works very hard each and every day. He has high expectations for himself and is a trustworthy young man! SS: Cora is always ready to learn, has a strong work ethic, and is a young lady of positive character. SC: Reagan is a great scientist who works hard and stays on task. She is always willing to help others and has the best attitude.

Math: John works very hard in math and participates frequently during lessons. He is happy to explain how he solves math problems in order to help other students understand. SS: Ladd is enthusiastic every day and always has a terrific attitude. He is a great student and leader at CMS. SC: Jenifer is always polite, on task, and respectful. She works hard every day and shows great character. ELA Applications: Aubrey is a pleasure to have in class. I enjoy having conversations with her about all sorts of topics. She works hard, and sets a great example for her peers. Math Applications: Aubrey is always hardworking, participates in class, and has a great attitude! (Not pictured) Connections: Kaleb is a leading participant in class discussions and frequently exhibits characteristics of a successful entrepreneur.

ELA Applications: Christian is a hardworking, responsible student who always has a great attitude! Math Applications: Nelson is a creative, problem-solver and a talented LEGO engineer. He is eager to share his knowledge with others. Connections: Kennedy Grace is a hard worker and always has the best attitude. She is a positive influence in the weight room.

✨CTAE Month Teacher Spotlight - Business Education at CMS is taught by Coach Kris Patel. This is his 6th year teaching Business Education, and 1st year at Commerce Middle School. Coach Patel also helps coach Baseball and Softball at CHS. We are grateful for the positive influence you have on our students!✨

✨CTAE Month Teacher Spotlight - Agriculture at CMS is taught by Mrs. April Davis. This is Mrs. Davis's 18th year teaching and 6th year at Commerce Middle School. She is also the FFA Advisor. Thank you Mrs Davis for all you do for the students at CMS!✨

In baseball news, Tigers sweep the Eagles of East Jackson by the scores of 6-4 and 6-1 tonight. Go Tigers!

Parents and Guardians: Progress Reports will be sent home today with all students. Please sign and return the progress report. We will also be sending deficiency notices home for any students who are currently failing 1 or more academic classes. If you receive a deficiency notice, please work with your child and their teachers to improve their grades. Any student who is failing 1 or more academic courses can be retained or made to attend summer school in June.

First soccer games of the season are in the books: both teams played East Jackson with the girls falling 2-1 and the boys ending in a 3-3 tie. Lots of soccer left so come out and support our Tigers!
