This week's Feature Teacher is Ms. Kristina Satterfield! Ms. Satterfield is our 8th Grade math teacher and also serves as Yearbook Editor. Ms. Sattefield graduated from Jackson Co. HS in 2010. She has a B.S. from the University of North Georgia and a M.S. from Piedmont College. Ms. Satterfield shared that when she is not teaching she is a 'foodie' at heart and enjoys sampling a variety of cuisines, hiking, and photography. She is most proud of students saying that she makes math seem easy and engaging. Today I visited her room and students were actively solving multi-step linear equations. Students were using multiple whiteboards collaboratively to work out problems and discuss their reasoning. If you see Ms. Satterfield in the community, please thank her for all she does for the students at CMS!

This year we are bringing back an old favorite, Weekly Teacher Feature, to celebrate all of our staff. We have not done it in 5 years so it is time for an update on the wonderful staff we have here at CMS. We will feature every teacher at CMS during the school year.
This week's Feature Teacher is Mrs. Lydia Peterman! Mrs. Peterman is our 7th Grade Language Arts teacher and this is her 4th year at CMS. Mrs. Peterman holds a B.S. from Piedmont University and an M.S. from Brenau University. Some interesting things about Mrs. Peterman is she LOVES the color red and has taught every grade except pre-K and 12th. Her hobbies include antiquing, thrifting, and she plans parties at a local wedding venue on the side. She focuses on building positive relationships so students know she is invested in them. I visited her classroom today and saw students annotating texts to better comprehend content. If you see Mrs. Peterman in the community, please thank her for all she does for the students at CMS!

The first day is off to a fantastic start!
A big thank you to Brittany Redmon for her donation of some first day treats for staff.
Welcome Back!
Parents: a few things for the first day. Make sure your child knows how they are getting home (car or bus). We will let them know which bus so don't worry about that part. If you do not have a car rider tag you cannot pick your child up in the car rider line. You can stop by CMS today to get one if you don't have one. If you are missing one tomorrow you will be sent around to the front office to get one. You cannot drop off a car rider in front of the school. Also remember that the Boys and Girls Club will not be open until Monday, August 5th.
Please help us welcome our new faculty and staff for the 24-25 school year. Go Tigers! #ExpectExcellence
Open House for CMS will be July 31st 5-7pm. We look forward to seeing everyone!

In addition, Commerce City Schools will be providing basic school supplies for all students in grades Pre-K through 12th grade. On behalf of the Commerce City Schools Board of Education, I would like to take this time to inform our parents that at the July board meeting, our Board of Education approved the recommendation to provide the basic school supplies for all children in our school district. We know that the current economic outlook for all families is challenging to navigate at times, and we as a school system want to try and ease the financial burden. We have compiled a list of the basic supplies needed for your student and have placed a group order for all of our students. The supplies will be delivered to each school and distributed to each teacher for their classrooms. We have many local churches and other organizations that will be doing back to school events where they will provide free school supplies, and I would encourage you to attend these events as well.
Go Tigers!
